An official update was published by Linden Lab/Second Life.

The launch of Viewer 26.1.1 is a big novelty!

With this update, the Second Life installation and upgrade experience has been dramatically simplified.

What's new?

• Windows viewers now use a new “one click” installer that installs the viewer in a local user directory.
  • Viewers on macOS still use disk image method for undrag and drop installation.
• All viewers will now use a new updater that makes updates more transparent.
  • Viewers will no longer ask the user to install an update. Now, updates will be downloaded in the background and the user will be requested for installation.
• The installation in custom locations is supported by the command line parameter --installto
• Portable facilities can be found in GitHub. This is experimental and no support will be provided at this time. Use it at your own risk.
• The user will be asked to uninstall older viewers if he wishes to do so.
• The Windows viewer is now installed in a user directory. He can be found in %LocalAppData% in Windows Explorer. It will be listed as SecondLifeViewer.
