Second Life Viewer 2026.01 — Legacy & Stability Research

The version Second Life Viewer 2026.01 focuses on stability, usability and some very welcome quality of life updates. The main change is the return of Legacy Search, (found in the World menu) along with improvements in camera controls, instants, gestures and a wide range of bug fixes and reliability in inventory, rendering, uploads and voice.

As usual, this version also includes a substantial amount of behind-the-scenes work to make the viewer softer and resilient in daily use.

New Resources

• Legacy Search Returned, is not the standard search and can be found in the World menu, restoring the classic research experience on which many residents depend.
  
• Added the ability to hide transparent reflection probes, with a new menu option and a default shortcut: Alt + Shift + T.
  
• O Resident Chooser now supports search for Agent ID, improving support and administrative workflows.

Improvements in quality of life

• The window of Gestures now includes a orderable status column, facilitating the visualization of which gestures are active at first sight.
  
• Instant Inventory add 1024×1024 as a selectable resolution.
  
• The camera controls received several improvements, including better handling of the aspect ratio and a shortcut to move the camera down.
  
• Improved performance of list of costumesEspecially for larger wardrobes.
  
• Better handling of external editors, with improved fallback for the standard operating system application when no editor is configured.
  
• Restored support for avatar fabric.

Bug fixes and stability improvements

This version includes a wide set of fixes across the viewer:

Inventory and User Interface

• Fixed a persistent problem that could cause the viewer freeze when searching for inventory.
  
• Several problems related to Copy SLURL, including obsolete link formats and Bookmark bar behavior.
  
• Corrected cases where @mentions could appear twice when using certain characters.
  
• Corrected option “Do not show me in search” so that your visual status is updated correctly.
  
• Fixed a problem where the cache could be cleaned at each startup if the cache location was invalid.

Graphics and Rendering

• Multiple corrections of rendering failures, texture manipulation and LOD-related code paths.
  
• Fixed faults related to the configuration of shaders and extreme attachment cases.
  
• GPU benchmarking improvements, including better standards on systems Apple Silicon.

Uploads

• Multiple fixes for glTF uploads, including bug fixes and problems in text selection during upload.

Voice (WebRTC)

• Corrected failures during WebRTC startup.
  
• Improvements in voice reconnection behavior after disconnections.
  
• Adjustments in device exchange logic to avoid instability.
• Fixed support for disconnecting Bluetooth headphones.

Watchdog

• The system Watchdog it was reactivated and improved, with better feedback, greater thread coverage and reduction of false positives.
• Increased Watchdog time sensitivity to prevent a boot failure.
